I have a young 3 yr old cherry tree in Umatilla county in Oregon. It is on drip irrigation. The tree is about 9' high, and was pruned last winter to encourage secondary growth on the limbs.
The leaves have curled outward, turning brown and are quite limp on the tree. not many on the ground.
I don't see insects or the leaves being eaten by anything.
I have several other cherry trees that seem to be fine?
any suggestions?
thanks

Is there any ‘oozing’ from trunk, stems or twigs? Are there any ‘tiny’ holes in the trunk with frass (sawdust) on or around the trunk or base of the tree? Is the drip irrigation covering most of the root zone, or emitting off to ‘one side,’ or very close to the trunk?
And yes, a photo could be helpful…
It looks as if it’s wilted, but I’m sure you’ve put the water to it, and our summer hasn’t been that hot… Have you scraped away any of the mulch and looked for ‘vole’ damage or holes around the roots?
Is the ‘white-wash’ recent? Again, it looks to me like something’s ‘choking,’ leading me to suspect either lack of water; the root system under attack by voles (you’d see gopher kick-out holes); or ‘borers’ of some kind within the main trunk.
The leaves look very ‘consistent,’ often times one limb will be ‘attacked’ at a time, but this looks like overall distress… …and I’m not doubting the ‘fungal’ aspect, just less familiar with it. Good photos though – hopefully they’ll register with someone
