Cleft graft lost leaves-Miss Jessamine

It looks like my apple tree got some kind of pest or disease and lost leaves. I don't know if the graft is lost. It may come back next year. Luckily, Dave M let me take a couple of scions and I grafted another branch on another tree. Any ideas?

I probably don't have the answer for you, but the picture was too small for me to see what is going on there. I was curious to try and form an opinion about it.

The leaves on the cleft graft turned yellow and then fell off. I hope it comes back next year, but we'll see. I don't know.
