We are interested in edible chestnut trees, 2 , really. Viridian Farms said
that growers are keeping some pruned at 10 feet with success.
From one inquiry last year to another fellow near Germantown Road, he
mentioned Burnt Ridge Nursery as a source. His preference was Bouche deBetizac as the main tree and Marsol or Precoce Migoule as a pollinator.
Again our trees would be in a 50 x 100 lot.
Can someone suggest varietys for a 50x100 lot that could be pruned to stay small yet provide one household with chestnuts ?
Are our hopes realistic?

I ordered three chestnut seedlings from Burnt Ridge last spring: WHITTEN, PRECOCE MIGOULE, & MARRON DI VAL DI SUSA. I chose them for the description of their ripening in cool climates. I am in Puyallup WA. I have 3 1/2 acres though and a lot of room for them to grow. I'd suggest you consider filberts for your small lot because the trees won't grow as big if left alone. My filberts were planted in 2003 and started producing in 2007 (Barcelona and Casina). If you have any squirrels in the neighborhood I would suspect you won't get nuts from any of your trees though. My filberts and walnuts were stripped bare after Labor day this year.
