Is there any sort of grape that is a hybrid of Chardonnay and tastes like it but ripens earlier?
A friend of mine has a few acres and is looking for a few good wine grape plants to add for white wine.
He doesn't want Muller-Thurgau, and the Regular Chardonnay is just too late.
He has a very good site and excellent air drainage in the South Pierce County 'rain shadow, just south of Tacoma WA.
He's having great success with GR-7, and Millot.
His initial interest was in Chardonel, but seems that one is pretty late.
If Univ. Minnesota has done any Chardonnay hybrids, that would be something to look into.
I never took much interest in Chardonnay. It is a wine for meals, not so much a wine that you'd want to drink alone, "at least that is my opinion."
Much prefer the Riesling and Muscat types.
Perhaps the Kay Grey would work?
