I read the recent posts on greywater irrigation. Not sure I'm ready for that. But I am interested in capturing my raingutter water for later irrigation to the garden and blueberries, etc. I'd appreciate suggestions for designing systems and obtaining the equipment.

You could collect a few plastic drums and put them under the downspouts around your house. I was able to get plastic drums from Resers foods over in Beaverton for a couple bucks a piece.

Problem with rainwater collection is it doesn't rain much in summer time here so you need a lot of storage to collect the winter rain for summer use to have much effect.

If you have a place to put a large tank, check craigslistportland under farm and garden. someone had a 1600 gal plastic tank that could probably be used for your purpose.

I would be careful depending on your type of roofing material. If you have an all steel roof, it would be fine. I wouldn't put it on edibles with composition/tar roofing like I've got. Cedar shakes I guess would be fine.
My two cents.

I have a composition roof (new). Is it a matter of needing a settling tank for the water before transferring the water to long term storage? Or do you think the water would be too contaminated to ever use?

Thanks for the other ideas. Any books or articles someone can recommend?

I would talk to other people who are more versed in biology/health science. I have had many people mention this to me who are involved in these studies.
