I am frustrated using the "expert" county extension agent. We like what Warren Manhart has said about keeping the pH levels above 6.0 . I used to lime until soil tests showed a very high level of calcium. When I was putting lime on yearly, I had no bitter pit and no signs of calcium damage. Last year, I had both. We did use some calcium sprays. According to what I have researched, the claim is--it is impossible to keep the calcium levels high enough in the soil to satisfy the demands of the trees. We have 300 trees; will plan 100 more next week. All espalier--on trellis; about one acre. Any ideas? Sure wish I could pick Warren's brain!
