Are you the fellow who showed me how to build that gun, or someone I talked to about it along the way? I used the gun quite a bit, but now I use Naps gas and little giant destroyers. Easier and a lot lighter!
My son and I want to try making some wine. We're hoping to drive down to an orchard and pick up the grapes. We have about 4 20gal food grade containers we would like to fill. A friend told me awhile back that the commercial pickers leave quite a bit on the vines and sometimes you can go back and do pretty well. Anyway, if you can help me out that would be great.
I would trade tuna for grapes, . Ray
Yes, I am the guy. You came to see how my gun was put together.
There was a house not far from mine which we originally considered purchasing 11 years ago. It came with 7 acres of Pinot Noir. I will check with the people and see what they are doing with crop this year. I might even pick up some too if they are available.
Another source would be the HOS member who has 3600 apple cultivars for sale as scions every winter, he's got a bunch of Pinot's too. Lives in Yoncalla.
Do tell about the procedure for Maps gas and destroyers. I assume you leak some gas down the hole and some kind of time delay fuse?
PS: I just read on the web where blasting gophers can rapidly lead to uninsurability!!
The naps gas-I just pull the trigger part way to release gas into the hole, wrap my gloved hand around it so the gas can't leak back out, wait about 10 seconds then snap the ignighter on it. Sticking a little giant detroyer down the hole is another option. Seems to work well. I'm really interested in the grapes. If you can find out the details as to price, availability, time they'll be ready that will be great, as I have no idea. Thanks Ray
Hi Ray,
I drove over to the Pinot place yesterday. Nobody home. Left a note on the door with my phone number.
Their property looks a little shambled now. Certainly it did not look like that when we looked at it to purchase, that was a decade or more ago. But the grapes looked well pruned and healthy.
If they do not get back to me in a week or so, I will attempt a connection on a weekend. I might catch them at home that way.
Hi Ray,
Good news! The guy I left a note for is interested in talking to you. Says he expects to have around 5000 lbs of pinot this year. I guess he had to rehabilitate what the previous owner had done, but they are in great shape. Expects to harvest the first half of October.
I will send you a seperate email with his phone number.
