Hey all,

I just ordered a dozen of these rootstocks and planted them out into a nursery bed. Does anyone have experience with this rootstock? I have heard that it is cold tolerant, very vigorous (80-90% standard) and a bit more precocious than mm111. I am worried that it might get too big despite aggressive pruning. perhaps if it decides to crop early enough I can let it do so and that will curtail some vigor also. I wanted this rootstock for its positive attributes I have heard of. Any ideas?

Most fruit trees grow pretty slowly, and in such a cold climate, dieback at the tips might make you want to have a slightly vigorous rootstock.

My two cents,

Hi John,

That is what I was thinking and what the fruit tree specialist for the province suggested given the climate and soil. I plugged all that parameters into the tree height calculator on Orange Pippin and it came out at 16ft for bud 118. I think I made the right decision but only time will tell.
