Hi,
About to start grafting and have a quick question.
After you fit the rootstock to scion wood, do you wrap wax around it and then seal it off with tape or can I skip the wax?
Ive researched sources that dont talk about applying wax to the graft union for the whip and tongue method.
Thanks for your help,

Jeremiah,
Wrap the union with a non sticky tape that will pull everything together tightly. After that I wrap with black plastic tape and then cover any ends etc with wax or a grafting sealer. Some people just wrap with black plastic tape but I don't like the tape sticking to the bark. I noticed some don't use any sealer at all! Some will coat everything with Dr. Falwells.
A very good tutorial by Joe Real is on the GW. Other videos are on the You-tube. I like the looks of the saddle graft but have not tried it yet.
The non adhesive tape is a green plastic stretch material for tying plants.

You can use masking tape if it is not raining when you apply it. By the time the graft heals in mid-summer, the masking tape will whither away.
However, I prefer wide rubber bands. They don't have to be special ones for grafting. They hold the two parts together with pressure and can still be done in the rain.
Afterwards, apply grafting sealer like Doc Farwell's. Wait until it's not raining to do that. Apparently, you can use Elmer's school glue in a pinch.
