Anyone growing Belle de Boskoop?

I'm refining my order list, about to order for spring delivery and I am interested in this apple. I'm worried abut hardiness. I see it rated zone 6-9. I'm growing zone 6 fruit, with extra care, but not every variety will make it.

How about flavor and texture? It's supposed to be good to cook and store. How about fresh eating?

Thanks

Hi,

I am in the land of the original good oldie:"Belle de Boskoop". Apple's, pears and cherries.
It's a big size apple. not for fresh eating variety, unless you prefere a sour apple.
On the counter let say about a month, it taste pretty well with a nice aroma.
A very good storage apple a lot of(pectine), over here a number one for cooking (pie)
In about a month they are ready to pick, with a wonderfull red blush
Resistant to frost, a healthy vigor without diseases.

I took this pic today

Fedco (of Maine) offers the trees and rates them to zone 4.

The Boskoops I ate last year were quite good.

I am growing this variety on a branch of my tree in Portland. It takes a long time to mature, but I'm finally going to harvest a couple this year for the first time. I like the flavor of this apple fresh, but I really like a full flavored apple-sweet and tart, and all kinds of flavors. I don't like bland apples, like current Red Delicious.

I just had my first one off my tree. Very flavorful. Very sweet and very tart, just the way I like them. Supposedly, it gets very productive once it gets going.

Excellent. I'm considering it as a cooking apple that holds its shape, but it's a bonus if an apple can do both, fresh and cooking.

I like an apple with a lot of complex flavor, and tart is OK, and long as tart isn't it's only trick.

And, what the heck, you've got to love the name.
