Hi, just thought I'd mention this event in case anyone in the lower Willamette Valley is interested - Antique Apple Orchard Inc., located just outside of Sweet Home, Oregon is having their yearly cider pressing and apple tasting on October 6th. Not sure of what starting time, but all day - cider is pressed with a powered 1913 press, bought new by the owner's grandfather; presses 3 1/2 gallons cider at once! The owner told me that there will be about 100 varieties of apples to taste, and several apple experts will be there; think mostly ex OSU professors. Also visits from a couple of old car clubs. This orchard has about 200 varieties. Record pressing was about 900 bushels, I think.
It's located at 28101 Santiam Highway (Highway 20); if coming from the valley it's on the left at the end of a very long straight section just before a sweeping left hand bend with a lots of guardrail above the river, and you cross railroad tracks to get to it. Phone number is 541-367-4840 if anyone has questions, I visited them about 9 days ago to get a bunch of lesser known apples to sample; came home with about 20 kinds I hadn't tried! If you miss the turn, the town's about a mile past; you'll know to turn around then:)
