I am seeing a condition I haven't seen before. I have an apple tree (Wolf River) which has several other variety grafts that is exhibiting leaves and blossoms that have stunted growth. The leaves are curled toward the upper surface and lengthwise. The flower buds are extremely small and not showing signs of opening. This condition seems to be effecting the tree in a random manner. There are some branches that appear entirely normal and have open blossoms. However I think all the grafts are involved. An adjacent Gravenstein looks normal in full bloom but a McIntosh graft on it appears to be effected.
There is another Wolf River tree at some distance (80+ ft.) from the one described that doesn't appear to be effected.
Does anyone have suggestions?
Location is Raleigh Hills vacinity between Portland and Beaverton,Oregon.
This condition described above reminds one somewhat of powdery mildew but lacks the whitish powder.
Today, 4/17/10, I observed a similar leaf condition on a couple small branches of a Santa Rosa plum tree adjacent to the apple tree. Could there ber a common cause?
