One of the motivations for attending this year were to see John and Viron again. That was good if brief.

I got a few plum scions, with the intent to learn/practice grafting. But in walking around, noticed that my preferred rootstock for a pot was there. Just for fun, bought a root, and took it with one of the scions to Viron. Viron pointed out a couple of deficiencies with the root and encouraged me to go replace it. Viron then made what seemed to be an almost seamless graft. Viron, thanks for looking out for me and for the great craftsmanship.

The instructions given with newly made trees were very detailed, good. However, one line of the instructions might benefit from being revisited. The line was "a potting soil/compost blend and a one gallon pot will be a great start for the tree." My plum tree had a dwarfing rootstock and yet there was no way it would fit into a one gallon pot. With some root pruning, a two or three gallon pot.

Both buds now show about two inches of growth, so the operation was a success.

Good idea, good to hear it's growing, and it was good to see you again Dave.
