Despite the fact that the state is smaller than several (most?) counties in Oregon or most western states, they do have a pawpaw festival. There's also one in Ohio.

There are Am. persimmon festivals in NC and Indiana.

I wish I could have gone to that.  My pawpaws are yet to produce their first fruit.  For two years in a row, I've hand-pollinated Sunflower and NC-1 and this year had the first flowers on Mango, which is admittedly small - about 2 foot tall.  The first two are becoming handsome trees, 7 and 8 foot tall, but no fruit yet.

That said, if someone wants some scion from those in late winter, I should be able to provide a limited amount.

Hey Daniel,

We just got our first sunflower.  Once they get going, they produce an amazing amount of fruit. We have a wells pawpaw, which I believe is not in enough sun and it's tall but doesn't even flower.  I tried to graft it, but we'll see.

John, you give me some hope!  Roughly how tall is your Sunflower?

I also have Mango, Rebecca's Gold, and Allegheney, but they are still tiny.  Not expecting any on those for years, if ever.

Starting over in Virginia, I sat with a local Pawpaw grower/ enthusiast selling potted starts at a recent local fair.  He does well starting them from seed, and suggests planting ‘a grove.’  He'll dig root shoots from known varieties (his favorite non grafted seedlings), then plug a few seeds in the pot with them... "There's your grove"Cool

I didn’t trust pawpaws producing in Oregon ... and am still not convinced to try them ‘over here,’ though closer to their home range...  As I age, there’s less time (or tolerance) for lengthy mistakes, but I would like to check out some of the pawpaw festivals.

‘Tex,’ suggested his favorite, an event in N. Carolina, I think it’s an annual grower’s convention - sure wound him up!

I’ve the sunny space.. if only in need of courage Wink

A fellow a few blocks away in SE PDX regularly gets crops. I think his trees are over 10 years old, has had crops for several years. Large, twin fruits. Trees are 8 to 15 feet tall, mostly sunny but not full sun.

Larry, that is encouraging to read.  Maybe my trees will produce some yet in my lifetime.  🙂  If we get a lot, maybe some day we can have a Pacific NW pawpaw festival.
